To address this, the British Standards Institute (BSI) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), amongst others, developed certified standards. These standards offered businesses a quantifiable benchmark, fostering trust and facilitating collaboration between businesses.
The ISO 9000 series of standards, developed and refined over several decades, represents the gold standard in quality. It’s evolved from simple documentation to a focus on customer satisfaction, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement – values I deeply understand.

My involvement with quality management began as a young officer in the British Army, where rigorous standards and drills were paramount.
